"There has been an explosion of scientific research in recent years, showing the link between many medical conditions and poor digestive health."
Maria Larkin, M.Ed, RDN, LD
Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist
Armed with a strong clinical medical background and a functional medicine approach, Maria offers in-depth one-on-one medical nutritional therapy sessions and group classes to translate the underlying reason for her clients’ gastrointestinal symptoms and to connect the dots for how these impact other important body systems and behavior such as pelvic floor dysfunction, polycystic ovarian syndrome, interstitial cystitis, weight loss resistance, hormone imbalance and even food addiction and eating disorders.
Maria trained at the University of Chicago’s Celiac Disease Center, has attended all six SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) symposiums in Portland, Oregon, and trained with Kate Scarlata and Patsy Catsos to educate her clients on diets for IBS. She has attended the entire Institute for Functional Medicine modules and received a certificate of training from the Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy Center.
Maria co-authored the book, Nutrition Counseling in the Treatment of Eating Disorders. Using a collaborative, motivational style, she works with clients with disordered eating and eating disorders to normalize their eating and find balance. She holds a certificate in Mindful-Based Eating Awareness, which she infuses into her individual and group meetings.
